Former IU basketball player Ray Tolbert will be inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame at a dinner on Friday.

Playing from 1978 to 1981, Tolbert was a starter on two Big Ten Championship teams and a co-captain on the 1981 National Championship team.

Tolbert hails from Anderson, Ind., was a four-year letter winner for Coach Bob Knight and led the Hoosiers in rebounding during each of his four seasons.

In the 1981 season, Tolbert was the Big Ten Player of the Year after he averaged 12.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

In IU’s 63-50 championship win against North Carolina, Tolbert had a team-high 11 rebounds.

The New Jersey Nets selected Tolbert No. 18 overall in the 1981 NBA Draft. He went on to play for six NBA teams in five seasons.

In his career, Tolbert ranks 18th on the IU scoring list with 1,427 points and sixth in
rebounds with 874.
