Kilroy’s Sports under investigation, focus should remain on Lauren, officer says

Indiana State Excise Police are investigating Kilroy’s Sports Bar for allegedly serving alcohol to missing student Lauren Spierer during the hours before her disappearance.

Officer Travis Thickstun confirmed that excise police does currently have an investigation into Sports, but that an investigation like this is not out of the ordinary.

Excise officers are present in Bloomington bars at least once or twice a week, Thickstun said. Officers were not at Sports the evening before Lauren’s disappearance, but they have made citations at the bar before in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

While the officers are known by many students for their presence during tailgate parties, they can also be found just as frequently at grocery stories, liquor stores and bars — anywhere alcohol is served, he said.

Thickstun said while this is an open investigation the officers are taking seriously, the attention should remain on Lauren’s disappearance.

“The most important thing is to focus on Lauren at this point,” Thickstun said. “She is what is important. That’s the main thing with this story.”
