Cream team takes lead in IU fall baseball series

With two games left in the annual fall Cream & Crimson intrasquad series for the IU baseball team, the Cream team took control of the series with a narrow 2-1 win Thursday at Sembower Field.

With a pitching duel on both sides, freshman pitcher Typer Thicke picked up the win for the Cream squad, giving the team a 2-1 edge in the five-game series with two remaining.
Thicke worked 2.1 innings, surrendering two walks and striking out three.

Freshman Joey DeNato started on the mound for the Crimson squad, allowing just a single unearned run over five innings. The left-hander also struck out two, walked two and gave up four singles.

Junior outfielder Alex Dickerson, last year’s Big Ten Player of the Year, scored the first run of the game for the Cream team with a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the first. It marked Dickerson’s second RBI of the fall series, and the outfielder finished the day 0-1 with a walk.

Sophomore outfielder Justin Cureton hit another sacrifice fly in the sixth to score freshman infielder Dustin DeMuth and give the Cream the only lead they would need.

The series finishes this weekend with games, free and open to the public, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Sembower Field.
