Hardly 'Grown Up' at all

grownmen

Adam Sandler is done.

The once-great comedian put the final nail in his career’s coffin with his newest comedy “Grown Ups,” the story of five men who reunite on a family outing to rekindle childhood friendships and deal with the amusing situations between all the kooky members of their family.

It stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider (who doesn’t have a funny line in the entire film) and Chris Rock (who seems to have phoned in his scenes while shooting “Death at a Funeral”).

While the movie gives a chuckle or two at times, it is truly sad to think that this is the best we can get from five of the most talented comedians in film’s recent history.
There are plenty of fat jokes, fart jokes, poop jokes and lots of people getting hurt — which, while not terrible, is about all this film has to offer.

Gone are Sandler’s glory days of “Billy Madison,” “Happy Gilmore” and “The Waterboy.” Now he can’t seem to play a role that isn’t “a rich funny guy from Hollywood,” and he just can’t bring the laughs like he used to.

The film has its moments — some good, some bad, some just awkward — but it is almost devastatingly disappointing to see all that potential talent wasted. Sandler’s career isn’t finished, but his quality work is definitely long gone.
