IU welcomes familiar in-state foe Indiana State

baseball

The Hoosiers look to bounce back after losing two games to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, with a non-conference home game against Indiana State (25-12) at 3 p.m.

The two teams have played 92 times since first meeting in 1897, with IU (20-18) leading the all-time series 53-39-1. However, IU’s domination of the series has ceased in the recent matchups, with Indiana State winning four of the last five games and outscoring the Hoosiers 34-15.

Sycamore senior center fielder Ryan Strausborger carries a pair of lengthy streaks into this afternoons match-up. The senior boasts a 22-game hit streak and a 14-game stolen base streak. He has been a key catalyst for an ISU team that is hitting .319 on the season, leading the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Hoosiers will need production from junior first baseman Jerrud Sabourin and sophomore outfielder Alex Dickerson in order to push pass the Sycamores. The two struggled at the plate against Minnesota, going a combined 3-21 in the series.

Starting pitchers are not known yet. But the Hoosiers are expected to send multiple pitchers to the mound for two or three innings a piece to preserve their bullpen for the upcoming weekend series against Purdue.
