IU-Kokomo, IU-Northwest Gary select new chancellors

Michael Harris, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Kettering University, has been appointed the new chancellor for IU-Kokomo, and William Lowe, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Metropolitan State University, has been selected as the new chancellor for IU-Northwest Gary. Both positions were announced by IU President Michael McRobbie on Tuesday and are subject to approval by the board of trustees.

Harris has previously been the vice president for academic affairs at Ferris State University and an associate provost at Eastern Michigan University, according to an IU press release.

“I look forward to working with him to further strengthen the academic environment in Kokomo and continue to build upon the strong partnerships we have built in the region,” McRobbie said in the release.

Harris said he is honored to assume his new position.

“I’m looking forward to working with colleagues to shape IU-Kokomo’s future, lead it to even greater heights and assist President McRobbie in achieving his vision for IU,” he said.

He will replace interim chancellor Stuart Green.

Lowe has previously served as interim president of Metropolitan State University and vice president for academic affairs at The College of Saint Rose. He has been at his current position since 2003.

“His academic and administrative experiences, proven leadership abilities and commitment to community engagement make him an ideal fit for IU-Northwest as it seeks to fulfill its educational mission to the citizens of Northwest Indiana and contribute to economic and cultural development in the region,” McRobbie said in the release.

Lowe said he is grateful for this new opportunity.

“I look forward to working with the campus and Gary communities to continue to build a very successful future,” Lowe said in the release.

He will replace retiring Bruce Bergland as chancellor.
