Matthew L. Martin and James Brooks were arrested on preliminary charges of rape by the Bloomington Police Department at about 3 p.m. Thursday.
A 28-year-old Bloomington woman told Bloomington officers she met the two men at Night Moves on South Walnut Street earlier that morning.
The two men had offered her a ride home, according to the police report.
The victim claimed the two men insisted on stopping at their hotel room in the 1700 block of N. Walnut St.
According to the report, she said they needed to “stop and use their bathroom, and she needed to use the bathroom too.”
The woman told BPD the men refused to let her leave the hotel room once inside. She alleged to have been sexually assaulted several times throughout the night.
She said one of the men fell asleep eventually and she escaped while the other was using the bathroom. She said she believes they arrived at the hotel room at 3 a.m.
BPD Detective Rich Hunter obtained a search warrant for the room, where they were unable to find anyone. They did, however, notice that “one of the headboards had been broken off a bed frame,” the report said.
The men, both 28, admitted to having sex with the woman but insisted it was consensual. Martin was wanted on a federal warrant out of Illinois.
According to BPD Lt. David Drake, Martin is known to Bloomington law enforcement officers.
Among previous charges, Martin had two counts of armed robbery and two counts of criminal confinement in 2005. In that incident, Martin robbed two men at gunpoint.
Martin was also charged in 2007 with two felony counts of assisting a criminal.
