Chappell named Big Ten Player of the Week

IU-Illinois Football

With his career highs in passing yards and touchdowns against Illinois on Saturday, IU quarterback Ben Chappell has earned his first Big Ten Player of the Week award, as announced by the conference Sunday night.

Chappell threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers in a 27-14 victory over the Illini. Chappell shares the award with Michigan State wide receiver Blair White.

This marks the first time a Hoosier has won the award since Kellen Lewis did so after Week One last season.

In his performance Saturday, Chappell connected with sophomore wide receivers Damarlo Belcher and Tandon Doss for scoring plays of 29 and 44 yards, respectively. He capped off the night with a 13-yard strike to senior tight end Troy Wagner.

Chappell is currently third in the Big Ten with 237.7 passing yards per game and is fourth in completion percentage at 63.4 percent.
